The family members of U.S. Army Pfc. Mose E. Vance pose with a homemade quilt gifted to them by a group of Gold Star Mothers at a private conference room at the Charlotte International Airport in Charlotte, North Carolina, July 31, 2024. The quilt is a token of support for Vance’s family upon becoming a Gold Star Family. The family awaits the arrival of the flight that carries the remains of Pfc. Vance who was killed in action in France in January 1945 during World War II. The Vance family worked with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency to identify Vance’s remains after being interred, unidentified, in France, for nearly 80 years. Upon his return home, Vance will be laid to rest at the Vance Cemetery in Paynesville, West Virginia. (U.S. Army National Guard Photo by Sgt. 1st Class Ariana Shuemake)
