KOROR, Republic of Palau (Aug. 12, 2024) – Rear Adm. Greg Huffman, commander, Joint Task Force Micronesia (JTF-M) addresses lawmakers and representatives in the region during the Association of Pacific Island Legislatures (APIL) 41st General Assembly held Aug. 12 at the Palau National Congress in Koror.
This year’s theme focused on human capital development in Oceania and specifically how legislatures can strengthen people-centered security for the Pacific Islanders. Huffman focused his remarks on cyber and theater security. He further emphasized the role of the newly formed operational command, JTF-M, in defending freedom and deterring adversaries in the Indo-Pacific area.
The APIL, formed in 1981, is comprised of legislative representatives from 12 island governments. Members of the group meet regularly to consider matters in areas where regional cooperation, coordination, exchange and assistance may help governments achieve their goals through collective action.
