KOROR, Republic of Palau (Aug. 12, 2024) – Rear Adm. Greg Huffman, commander, Joint Task Force Micronesia (JTF-M) speaks to Hawaii Senator Jarrett Keohokalole following his presentation in front of the Association of Pacific Island Legislatures (APIL) 41 General Assembly held Aug. 12 at the Palau National Congress in Koror.
This year’s general assembly focused on human capital development in Oceania and specifically how legislatures can strengthen people centered security for the Pacific Islanders. Huffman discussed cyber and theater security. He further emphasized the role of the newly formed operational command, JTF-M, in defending freedom and deterring adversaries in the Indo-Pacific area.
The APIL, formed in 1981, is comprised of legislative representatives from 12 island governments. Members of the group meet regularly to consider matters in areas where regional cooperation, coordination, exchange and assistance may help governments achieve their goals through collective action.
