Jack Kenkeo, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) life support investigator, gives a brief of DPAA operations to Heather Variava, U.S. ambassador to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Aug.13, 2024. Kenkeo supports each mission by using his expertise in LSI to look through found objects within the excavated soil to determine if any aircraft wreckage has been found. This can help determine the excavation process throughout each mission. Since 1985, the United States and Lao governments have worked closely together to find and recover unaccounted-for American personnel. There are currently 1,575 missing and unaccounted-for Americans from the Vietnam War. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Lesley B. Cisneros)
