Spc. Cesar Mangowal, an infantryman with Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry Regiment (Mountain), 54th Troop Command, New Hampshire Army National Guard, fires an M17 pistol during the German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency (GAFPB) event September 7, 2024, at the Regional Training Site in Center Strafford, N.H. The German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency or, in German, “Das Abzeichen für Leistungen im Truppendienst” is a decoration of the Bundeswehr, the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Germany. Allied soldiers of any rank may also be awarded the badge. This is one of the few approved foreign awards and requires those seeking the badge to complete a swim test, fitness assessment, marksmanship qualification and foot march.
