Ms. Coral Doolittle, mother of Corporal Humberto A. Sanchez, accepts the Congressional Gold Medal on behalf of the families of the thirteen servicemembers who lost their lives while stationed at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan on August 26, 2021. "The blank check they signed when they enlisted was cashed in full," said Ms. Doolittle.
She also offered words of thanks, “but we want everybody to know that ceremonies like this provide a small but meaningful breath of relief in our ongoing journey of grief, reminding us that we raised the best and brightest for this country."
