Alaska Army National Guardsmen assigned to Detachment 2, Charlie Company, 3-140th Security and Support Battalion, remove the rotor blades from a UH-72A Lakota light utility helicopter while preparing to deploy from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Oct. 8, 2024. The AKARNG Soldiers prepped two helicopters for transport via an Alaska Air National Guard C-17 Globemaster III to the Southwest border in support of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection mission. The detachment of approximately 20 Alaska Guardsmen and two UH-72A Lakota helicopters from the 207th Aviation Troop Command will deploy for about 12 months to augment the security mission.
