Shawn Apger, a mechanic with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District, adjusts diving headgear used in an underwater inspection of the gates of the main chamber at Wilson Lock in Florence, Ala., October 9, 2024. The chamber is closed pending an evaluation of cracks in the gates on both the land and river sides; data collected by the divers and a remotely-operated submersible the week of October 7-11 will help USACE decide on a course of action for repairing the lock chamber.
