    A US Marine Corps (USMC) Basic Training recruit, armed with 5.56 mm M16A2 rifles, from Platoon 2086, Parris Island Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), Parris Island, South Carolina (SC), takes cover behind a tree during the "Crucible" phase of training. The Crucible phase of training consists of 54 hours of field training, including sleep deprivation, food deprivation, with day and night operations and is one of the final tests for recruits to become a Marine.
