YOKOSUKA, Japan (October 11, 2024) - Personnel Specialist Seaman Apprentice Melina Franco Reyes of Transaction Service Center Yokosuka serves as the Master of Ceremonies at the Yokosuka Navy Birthday Ball October 11, 2024 in Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka's Club Alliance. In 1972, the U.S. Navy's Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt, authorized October 13, 1775 as the officially recognized date of the U.S. Navy's birthday. Since then, each CNO has encouraged a Navy-wide celebration of the occasion to "enhance a greater appreciation of our Navy heritage, and to provide a positive influence toward pride and professionalism in the Naval service."
