Jim Kunkle, World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, visits with Col. Andrew Malousek, 155th Air Refueling Wing vice wing commander, Sept. 21, 2024, during the Central Coast AirFest at the Santa Maria Airport in Santa Maria, California. Kunkle served as a fighter pilot during WWII and flew P-38 and P-57 aircraft. Kunkle received the Distinguished Service Cross for engaging 20 German aircraft and downing two of them.
