A face is carved into a root war club, one of many replica artifacts belonging to the Mohegan Tribe, displayed by David Eichelberg, outreach and tradition specialist of the Mohegan Tribe Cultural and Community Programs Department, for the 192nd’s National Native American Heritage Month observance at Camp Nett, Niantic, Connecticut, Nov. 2, 2024. Root war clubs were made by pulling a small tree sapling from the ground, cutting off its roots, drying it out and then hardening it using fire. Some Native American warriors would personalize these clubs with carvings or other additions. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Matthew Lucibello)
