Atlantic Ocean (Nov. 13, 2024) Sailors onboard the wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) simulate the process of swapping positions on a fire hose during simulated general quarters drill. Iwo Jima is underway conducting a gunnery exercise as part of its combat systems ship qualification trials. Amphibious assault ships, like Iwo Jima, project power and maintain presence by serving as the flagship of an amphibious readiness group and expeditionary strike group at sea.
