Atlantic Ocean (Nov. 12, 2024) The aft Close-In Weapons System (CWIS) fires from the fantail of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) November 12, 2024. Iwo Jima is underway conducting a gunnery exercise as part of its combat systems ship qualification trials. Amphibious assault ships, like Iwo Jima, project power and maintain presence by serving as the flagship of an amphibious readiness group and expeditionary strike group at sea.
