The Husseiniya Working Group Charter signed into effect August 1, 2005, to improve and develop essential services such as drinking water, storm-drainage, and waste treatment facilities in Husseiniya, Iraq. Husseiniya is a settlement that took root in the agricultural region north of Baghdad in the 1980s and the previous regime never extended basic public services to the area. The population of Husseiniya steadily increased to nearly 750,000 residents as more and more people moved to the town with their families. This large influx of people from the towns surrounding Baghdad created a public works crisis situation that continues to this day. (Photo by Sgt. Kevin Bromley, 100th MPAD)
