The 39th Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Eric M. Smith, hands a slice of cake to Lt. Gen. Dimitri Henry, the Director of Intelligence for the Joint Chief of Staff, during the Pentagon Marine Corps 249th Birthday Cake Cutting Ceremony in Washington, DC on Nov. 7, 2024. General Henry acted as the oldest Marine during the ceremony. It is tradition for the oldest Marine in attendance receive one of the first slices of cake as a sign of honor and respect according to experiences and seniority.
