Elton Hoshihara Cruz, facilities operations, Marine Corps Installations Pacific, center, laughs after his match during the All-Island Okinawa Style Sumo Tournament at Kouri Island Sorahashi Station, Okinawa, Japan, Nov. 24, 2024. The tournament, open to all, featured 20 competitors, two of which were Marines from Camp Schwab and one a Status of Forces Agreement member from Camp Courtney. During a bout, competitors aim to earn points by making their opponent fall onto the dohyo, without striking or letting go of each other’s belts. The winners of the two weight classes were Yasukawa Takatoki and Itokazu Yuto both Okinawa policemen and black belts in Judo. Hoshihara Cruz is a native of South Carolina.
