Perry, the senior Marine Corps representative at the Naval Postgraduate School, cuts the ceremonial birthday cake with a Mameluke Sword during the 249th Marine Corps Birthday Ball ceremony held at the historic Del Monte Hotel, Monterey, California, November 15, 2024. The birthday cake is traditionally cut with the Mameluke sword as a reminder that the Marines are a band of warriors committed to carrying the sword so that our nation may live in peace. The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), located in Monterey, California, provides defense-focused graduate education, including classified studies and interdisciplinary research, to advance the operational effectiveness, technological leadership, and warfighting advantage of the Naval service. Established in 1909, NPS offers master’s and doctorate programs to Department of Defense military and civilians, along with international partners, to deliver transformative solutions and innovative leaders through advanced education and research.
