Airmen from the 152nd Maintenance Group, Nevada Air National Guard, place the Modular Airborne Firefighting System decal #9 on the tail of aircraft number 553 at the Nevada Air National Guard Base January 9, 2024 in preparation for activation to support wildland firefighting in Los Angeles. At the request of the National Interagency Fire Center/FEMA/the State of California, U.S. Northern Command activated all eight of the MAFFS units, the 152nd Airlift Wing out of Nevada Air National Guard Base in Reno, Nevada, 153rd Airlift Wing out of Wyoming Air National Guard Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the 146th Airlift Wing out of Channel Islands Air National Guard Base at Port Hueneme, California and the 302nd Air Reserve Unit out of Peterson Space Force Base.
