    The 39th Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Eric M. Smith, and the spouse of the Secretary of the Navy, Mrs. Betty Del Toro, congratulate Chesty XVI, Marine Barracks Washington mascot, on his promotion to corporal at the Oldest Post of the Corps on Jan. 16, 2025. The promotion was held in recognition of Secretary Del Toro's last moments in office with multiple senior leaders of the Marine Corps in attendance. In his ending remarks, Secretary Del Toro announced the name of the USS McClung (LSM 1) in recognition for the first U.S. Marine Corps female officer killed in Iraq and the first female graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy to be killed in the line of duty, Maj.
