GREAT LAKES, Ill. (January 30, 2025) An accession-level Sailor assigned to the Surface Warfare Engineering School Command Great Lakes Gas Turbine Systems Technician (GS) "A" School, takes notes during a demonstration of gas turbine engine operations aboard Naval Station Great Lakes, January 30, 2025. The GS rating is broken up into two sub-specialtys: electrical and mechanical. The mechanical sub-specialty, or GSM, operate, repair, and perform organizational and intermediate maintenance on mechanical components of gas turbine engines, while the electrical sub-specialty, or GSE, are responsible for operating, repairing and performing maintenance on the electrical components.
