U.S. Marines with Maritime Raid Force, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, conduct a simulated visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) raid onboard USS John L. Canley (ESB 6) in the Philippine Sea, Feb. 10, 2025. VBSS is part of maritime interception operations that aim to delay or destroy enemy forces and supply chains in the maritime domain. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force, ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premiere crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
