USS Tulsa (LCS 16) Quartermaster Chief Petty Officer Dakota Whorton cleans the windows of the pilothouse aboard the Independence-variant littoral combat ship during a recent Combat Systems Assessment Team event at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division in California. Whorton said USS Tulsa generally has its windows cleaned prior to going underway. The job isn’t for the faint of heart or those afraid of heights, since there is no walkway or safety rail around the pilothouse. Sailors assigned to clean the outside of the windows must use a safety harness connected to the ship and carefully walk along small footholds. (U.S. Navy photo by Eric Parsons)
