Scott McGuire, Natural Resources Manager at Naval Air Station (NAS) Corpus Christi, measures one of 18 green sea turtles recently rescued from cold-stunning, a condition caused by a sharp drop in Gulf Coast water temperatures. Measuring the turtles provides valuable data for conservation and management. Cold-stunning occurs when sudden, extreme cold leaves the turtles lethargic and unable to swim, dive, or evade predators. After rehabilitation, the turtles will be safely released back into the ocean in waters with ideal temperatures and habitats.
