Justin and Misty Schreppel pose for a photo with World War II survivor Jean De Fester during a visit to Zoersel, Belgium in 2014. De Fester showed the Schreppels the location where Staff Sgt. Joe Schreppel landed by parachute on Aug. 17, 1943 after his B-17 aircraft was shot down by the German Luftwaffe. De Fester’s father took the mattress from her bedroom out to the forest to provide comfort for the dying Soldier’s last moments of life. (Photo courtesy of Justin Schreppel)
