A photograph of USS Indianapolis (CA-35) is displayed during a National Naval Aviation Museum (NNAM)-sponsored USS Indianapolis observance March 11, 2025 at the NNAM in Pensacola, Florida. Pensacola native Cmdr. Hunter Scott, executive officer of Consolidated Brig Miramar, was recognized at the observance for his research of USS Indianapolis during his time as a Ransom Middle School student. He amassed a collection of information on USS Indianapolis, and with the help of then-Pensacola Congressman Joe Scarborough, introduced legislation in October 2000, successfully lobbying Congress to award the Naval Unit Commendation to the ships final crew.
