Lance Cpl. Mathew Whaley, a training noncommissioned officer with 1st Intelligence Battalion, from Dandridge, Tenn., prepares to hit a pitch in an effort to help his team win their first regular season softball game at Camp Pendleton, Calif., March 19. The softball games are part of a competition known as the Commanding General’s Cup. The cup has 23 events and provides Marines an opportunity to develop unit cohesion through competition outside of the work area.
