From left, U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Avery Cruz-Ramos, Senior Airmen Karisma Taylor, Jamal Curry, and Patton Quinton, 6th Air Refueling Wing Defenders, pose for a photo at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, March 21, 2025. Cruz-Ramos, along with his team, responded to a rare call on short notice to provide overwatch security for fifth-generation fighter aircraft off the installation. The team rapidly coordinated logistics and security requirements to ensure proper safeguarding of the fifth-generation aircraft. U.S. Army Black Hawk pilots enabled transportation for several Defenders and Tyndall AFB personnel augmented security at the site. Defenders are the service security and police forces that conduct 24/7 operations to protect personnel and critical national defense resources. They represent the largest career field in the Air Force with more than 38,000 members and provide installation security efforts at home stations and overseas, including in hostile theater locations. As the service’s law enforcement body, SF is primarily responsible for securing resources that provide strategic airpower and protect assets vital to US interests worldwide.
