U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Derek Simon, a flight equipment technician with III Marine Expeditionary Force, receives a challenge coin by Republic of Korea Lt. Gen. Ju Il-Suk, commanding general of ROK 1st Marine Division, during the ending ceremony of exercise Freedom Shield 25 at Camp Mujuk, South Korea, March 20, 2025. The Marines received challenge coins for their exceptional work performance during the exercise. Freedom Shield is an exercise that provides iterative opportunities for Republic of Korea Marine Corps and U.S. Marine Corps units to train together, improving their combined capabilities to deter threats and maintain peace on the Korean Peninsula.
