FORT JOHNSON, La. — Cpl. Austin “Quinn” Pickard, licensed practical nurse and noncommissioned officer in charge, and Lt. Col. Shemica Ward, clinical nursing officer in charge of the Labor, Delivery and Postpartum Ward at Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital, share a moment with a group of international exchange students during a special visit March 27. The teens — Suzanne Lay and Isaé Cissoko, seniors from France; Ariadna Ruiz Sanchez and Marco Brenes Suárez, sophomores from Spain; and Sutheera Kongsap, a sophomore from Thailand — are part of the International Student Exchange (ISE) Program and attend Leesville High School while living with active-duty military families stationed at the Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Johnson. As part of their community service project, the students handmade and donated colorful burp cloths for new moms at BJACH—spreading kindness, cultural connection, and creativity throughout the ward.
