Arnold Engineering Development Complex Commander Col. Grant Mizell, right, takes a look at the image provided by the digital camera of a Small Unmanned Aircraft System, also known as an sUAS or a “drone,” during a March 5, 2025 demonstration of the device at Arnold Air Force Base, Tenn. Piloting the sUAS is Robert Hastings, sUAS operator, center, and Matt Holder, sUAS observer. The sUAS will soon be used at Arnold to perform asset health assessments. The device is equipped with both digital and infrared imaging capabilities and will be flown around installation buildings, plant facilities and associated equipment to ensure there are no compromises to such assets and to assess the structural integrity of facilities.
