Sailors from the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard and the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Band conduct military funeral honors with funeral escort for U.S. Navy Capt. Samuel Purvis III in Section 83 of Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, Friday, April 4, 2025.
Purvis entered the Navy in 1957 and served for 11 years before leaving active duty as a lieutenant commander. He continued his service in the U.S. Naval Reserve and retired as a captain. Purvis’ military awards include six Air Medals.
Samuel Purvis IV, Purvis’ son, received the U.S. flag from his funeral service.
