    Samuel Purvis IV receives the U.S. flag from the funeral service for his father, U.S. Navy Capt. Samuel Purvis III, in Section 83 of Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, Friday, April 4, 2025.

    Capt. Purvis entered the Navy in 1957 and served for 11 years before leaving active duty as a lieutenant commander. He continued his service in the U.S. Naval Reserve and retired as a captain. Capt. Purvis’ military awards include six Air Medals.
