A group of visitors from Kesennuma, Japan, a small coastal town that was devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011, examine a Japanese World War II military-issued katana during a Tomodachi in San Diego 2013 tour of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Command Museum. The Japan Society of San Diego and Tijuana provided an opportunity for seven Japanese students to personally thank the Marines and sailors who provided humanitarian aid for them during the Operation Tomodachi rescue and relief efforts.
