After removal from the Melvin Price Locks and Dam, the original sections of the three-leaf lift gate await disposal at the Maple Island Access in West Alton, Missouri. The original three-leaf lift gate endured a global twist along with extensive fatigue cracking and was deemed unrepairable. A modern two-leaf gate system replaced these gates during a consolidated lock closure. Melvin Price Locks and Dam is a 1,160-foot-long dam structure equipped with a 1200-foot lock chamber and a 600-foot lock chamber, nine Tainter gates and an emergency spillway.
