Coast Guard Cutter Calhoun crew honors memory of cutter torpedoed in WWI

Aboard Coast Guard Cutter Calhoun (WMSL 759), wreaths lay ready to be thrown overboard for a memorial ceremony to honor the loss of Coast Guard Cutter Tampa while at sea near the presumed sinking location in the Bristol Channel, Britain, April 2, 2025. Only a few weeks before WWI ended, Tampa was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat on Sept. 26, 1918, killing 111 Coast Guardsmen, four U.S. Navy sailors, and 15 British royal navy sailors and dockworkers.
