Retired Army Maj. Gen. James Mukoyama, attends an office visit with Brig. Gen. Gracus K. Dunn, commanding general, 85th Support Command and deputy commanding general, First Army Division-West, during a visit there as a guest speaker for an Asian-American/Pacific Islander event held at the unit’s headquarters May 4. The 85th Support Command Equal Opportunity office held an observance with Mukoyama as the guest speaker discussing the contributions that Asian-Americans have given to this country, specifically, those of the first, second, and third generation Japanese people to this nation. Mukoyama, was a member of the 85th Support Command, formerly known as the 85th Training Division, for 18 years, he also was the first Asian-American to command an Army Division. He received his first star at the age of 43, and received his second star three years later. After 30 years of service, retiring in May 1995, his decorations and badges included: The Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, 3 Bronze Stars, Purple Heart, Parachutist Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, and Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
