Retired Maj. Gen. Melvin G. Spiese, former deputy commanding general of I Marine Expeditionary Force, accompanied by his wife Filomena, acts as the grand marshal for the 54th Annual Armed Forces Day Celebration and Parade, at Torrance, Calif., May 18. Montford Point Marines were honored during the parade for their sacrifices in helping to pave the way for minorities in the armed forces.
