Gov. Scott Walker and Maj. Gen. Donald Dunbar, adjutant general of Wisconsin, examine the charred remains of a grandchild's bicycle at the property of Daryl and Ann Phillips May 16. Walker, Dunbar and representatives from the state Department of Natural Resources and Wisconsin Emergency Management visited the site of an 8,000-acre wildfire in Douglas County, held a news conference at the incident command post at Gordon Town Hall and met residents affected by the blaze. Walker issued an executive order declaring a state of emergency in response to the forest fire. An aerial tour of the site illustrated the effectiveness of fire containment measures.
