Maj. James Pelland, team lead for Marine Corps Systems Command’s Individual Armor Team, jumps over a log to show the demonstrate the mobility provided by a prototype Modular Scalable Vest, the next generation body armor for the Marine Corps. A concept being considered for the MSV is the addition of a central load management and distribution system (shown here) that is modeled after the human spine to help distribute the weight Marines carry from their shoulders to their hips. The MSV will combine attributes from the two most recently fielded protective vests and is being developed by the armor team.
