For more than 20,000 soldiers, June 18 was a day to take a stand against sexual misconduct, as commanding general, Maj. Gen. Stephen R. Lanza, issued a division-wide sexual harassment and assault stand-up day across seven brigades at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. "There's five imperatives that you'll see today. The first thing really is about prevention. Establishing the conditions in our organization to prevent this. Second is investigation. Every allegation is professionally investigated by CID. The third and probably most important is to sustain a climate of trust and a command climate that is conducive to dignity and respect in our organizations. The fourth is accountability. Accountability for those who commit these crimes and for the commanders who have to enforce values in these organizations. And then lastly is all leaders engaged," explained Lanza.
