Sgt. Arthur Irwin, a maintenance technician with the 1-245 Airfield Operations Battalion and a resident of Ada, Okla., works to repair a generator for operations at Muskogee Davis Airport in Muskogee, Okla., June 19. Soldiers assigned to the AOB are training at Camp Gruber, near Muskogee, and Muskogee Davis Airport to improve their air traffic control and airfield operations skills. The training focuses on providing guidance to all aircraft in the area around Muskogee Davis Airport, which traditionally does not have fixed base air traffic control facilities tower or civilian air traffic control personnel. The unit is working with the civilian administration of the airport to integrate military equipment and experts into the airfield's normal operations. During events like these the AOB provides a mobile air traffic control tower, communications equipment and ground control approach equipment that allows aircraft to land and take off in weather conditions that would normally prevent that.
