Sgt. Steven Montoya, an air traffic controller with the 1-245 Aviation Operations Battalion and a resident of Midwest City, Okla., communicates with air traffic above Muskogee Davis Airport in Muskogee, Okla., June 24. Soldiers assigned to the AOB are training at Camp Gruber and Muskogee Davis Airport to improve their air traffic control and airfield operations skills. The training focuses on providing air traffic guidance to both civilian and military aircraft in the airspace around Muskogee Davis Airport, which does not normally provide these services. The unit is working with civilian airport administrators to integrate military equipment and experts into the airfield's normal operations. During this event, the AOB provides a mobile air traffic control tower, communications equipment and approach equipment that allows aircraft to land and take off in a wider range of weather conditions than the facility could otherwise support.
