Farris, a 1983 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, has served six deployments in Operations Just Cause, Desert Shied/Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, as well as a tour in Korea. He said he is looking forward to fishing and spending time with his wife, Tara, and their three kids is Bristow, Va., but he will always "miss serving with soldiers, the camaraderie, and the shared sense of purpose at being on point for the nation...As an institution and a profession, we have always been at the forefront and on point for the nation for the toughest challenges that shape our destiny as a free people. That is why we are trusted and that is why we must continue to earn that trust."
