Tech. Sgt. Randy Thibeau and Master Sgt. Gerald Kiger, 332nd Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron, power production technicians, hold a stake hammer as it pounds a four foot stake into the ground, March 12. The team drove 168 steaks into the ground to hold the entire arresting barrier system in place. If a fighter aircraft experiences malfunctioning landing gear, the pilot can a drop a hook to catch a cable attached to the barrier system, which slows the aircraft and enables a smoother landing. Sgt. Thibeau is deployed from Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D.; Sgt. Kiger is deployed from Yokota Air Base, Japan.
