Cpl. Matthew Aurello, a marksmanship coach on a rifle range on Parris Island, S.C., helps Rct. Danielle Thacker, Platoon 4025, Papa Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, adjust her shooting technique June 26, 2013. Thacker, 19, from Canton, Ohio, learned the fundamentals of Marine Corps marksmanship prior to applying them on qualification day with a M16 rifle. Rifle qualification is one of eight graduation requirements recruits must fulfill to become U.S. Marines. Papa Company is scheduled to graduate Aug. 2, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent for females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. Caitlin Brink)
