    Marine Corps Recruiting Command

Rct. Ryan Skibicki, 23, Platoon 2061, Fox Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, prepares to descend from a simulated helicopter skid during rappel training June 11, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. Rappel training helps prepare recruits for deployment from helicopters, navigating difficult terrain and gaining access to buildings during raids. The training also helps instill confidence and courage in recruits by overcoming a fear of heights. Skibicki is from Massillon, Ohio, and is scheduled to graduate Aug. 2, 2013. Approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of for females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. David Bessey)
