U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ty Michael Carter, a staff noncommissioned officer with Headquarters Support Company, 7th Infantry Division, and his wife, Shannon, address 20 media sources during an interview regarding his recent nomination for the Medal of Honor at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., July 29, 2013. Carter will receive the Medal of Honor in August for his conspicuous gallantry in Afghanistan while serving with Bravo Troop, 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment. On Oct. 3, 2009, many Soldiers distinguished themselves when more than 400 anti-Afghan forces attempted to overrun Combat Outpost Keating, Afghanistan. Of the 54 members who defended the position, eight Soldiers were killed and more than 25 were injured. Without regard to his own safety, Carter proved himself time and time again, risking his life while engaging in combat against the enemies of the United States. (U.S. Army photo by Spc.
