Lieutenant Gen. John Toolan Jr., the commanding general of I Marine Expeditionary Force, meets with Jerry Coleman, Major League Baseball Hall of Famer and Marine veteran who served in the Korean War and World War II, during San Diego Padres vs. New York Yankees game here, Aug. 4, 2013. Lieutenant Gen. Toolan, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., threw out the ceremonial first pitch of the game in front of a sell-out crowd. Coleman served as a Marine aviator and flew more than 120 combat missions combined in both wars. He postponed his baseball career to serve in the Corps during WWII and left the MLB at the start of the Korean War to return to active duty. He played with the Yankees, managed the Padres and later became play-by-play radio announcer for the Padres.
