RALEIGH, N.C. - The Soldiers and Airmen Assistance Fund today announced its new specialty license plate titled, “In God We Trust,” is available for purchase through the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles. The patriotic plate is part of the organization’s steadfast commitment to providing financial support to North Carolina National Guard families coping with unusual or unpreventable hardships.
Drivers in North Carolina can purchase the specialty license plate by ordering online or by visiting their local DMV office. For instructions on ordering online, visit http://www.saaf-nc.com/license-plate.html.
Of the $30 annual fee for each “In God We Trust” license plate tag, $20 will directly benefit the SAAF to continue their support of the North Carolina Army and Air Guard families.
The license plate was designed by ARMAC, a Raleigh-based design and merchandizing company, and features many patriotic elements, including the official U.S. motto, “In God We Trust,” the American bald eagle, a national emblem symbolizing authority and power, and a billowing American flag, representing freedom and democracy. The plate also features the letters "S" and "A" for “soldiers and airmen.”
“Our goal was to design a patriotic plate to honor our military members and our country, one that every North Carolinian would be proud to put on their vehicle,” said Dennis Roach, director of the SAAF. “From the eye-catching, patriotic design to the local impact each plate represents, the new license plate is a meaningful way for North Carolinians to demonstrate their patriotism and support for service members throughout our great state.”
The SAAF, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, relies on individual and business donations to complete its mission. With the help of funds from the license plates, the SAAF will be able to continue assisting North Carolina Army and Air Guard families by providing emergency grants. Since 2004, the assistance fund has provided $1.2 million of financial assistance to more than 1,200 National Guard families. Assistance is provided in the form of grants that are paid directly to families, mortgage lenders, utility companies, hospitals and other providers.
The new “In God We Trust” license plate was unveiled during a ceremony at Joint Force Headquarters in Raleigh, N.C., March 1. Maj. Gen. Greg Lusk, adjutant general of North Carolina, was among those who joined members of the SAAF to reveal the new plate design to the public.
